New Zealand "best of the losers"

In slavering anticipation of today's match between England and New Zealand, the Australian has cautiously declared that New Zealand are the "tepid favourites" in the "battle of the losers". High praise indeed.

Given the state NZ's top order is in, they should be thankful there's no Harmison, Hoggard or Jones to face upto. I mean, they fairly gifted away wickets to a decidedly second string Aussie attack.

The bowling though can finally boast variety, though I'm crying out for Kyle Mills to join the side and provide some stability. Bracewell seems determined to make an allrounder out of James Franklin who was a liability on Sunday. Not sure if these pitches suit his style of bowling at all.

Hey Mike - I think you might like the below peice of cricinfo commentary! - Wil Hoverd

30.1 Patel to Collingwood, no run, another one of Collingwood's bizarre defensive shots, running down the pitch before blocking it out

Hit it over the top man!

30.2 Patel to Collingwood, OUT, gone! Great work from New Zealand. Collingwood again came down the pitch and, with an ugly, wasteful swish of the bat, slogged across the line and is caught at short midwicket

PD Collingwood c Taylor b Patel 10 (21b 0x4 0x6) SR: 47.61

England are digging an almighty, cavernous hole here. And doing it with aplomb. It's an exercise in How To Make A Bad Tour Even Worse: throw away the one game you really should win at a canter

Right, here's Flintoff to salvage something from nothing.
