Ben on...a new old look for summer

The Black Caps have a new uniform for the Twenty20 matches against Sri Lanka ->

It's the uniform from the 1992 World Cup!

A prescient choice hopefully. This was the tournament where Mark Greatbatch demonstrated the effectiveness of all out aggression, smacking 14 6s, and were Martin Crowe scored at nearly a run a ball over the whole tournament, hitting 47 4s.

Somewhat unrelated to this piece but theres another woeful Richard Boock article in todays herald. Firstly he points to Monty Panesar seeing a team psychologist as a negative thing (despite the fact that pretty much ALL international teams and players now do this on a regular basis including NZ) and then refers to Ashley Giles as an "equal" to Panesar as a bowler.

right.

Whats wrong if top sportsmen see psychologists to perform well?

Absolutely nothing. But Boock obviously sees it as a sign of weakness. Despite the fact that all international teams use them, he probably sees it as some sign of weakness. Idiot. And to say Giles is Panesar's "equal" as a bowler is laughable. One can spin, the other cant. One attacks and gets wickets, the other bowls at legstump and bores the batsman into submission. Not to mention the fact Monty's average is about 10 runs lower than Giles. God, Richard Boock is a hack. I even prefer Mark Richardsons writing over his. And trust me, that says a lot..

Bet John Wright is excited about the new garb too - he'll be rapt to be reliving the memories of the kit that saw some of the world's worst captaincy decisions and the emergence of the fat cricketing supernova that is Inzy. Where's the hard case part of cricket in the 90s? the grey? the 12 home series without a win?! halcton days indeed...

12 home series without a win? Well at least they got the choice tournament right (the 1992 WC, in this case). Any calls for the turquoise/blue-green uniform used in the ICC Champions Trophy 2000?
