Ben on...the boys are back

The Black Caps are playing Essex at the moment. We managed to score a healthy total in our first dig, with Essex starting their innings as I write.

Our line up looks much better now that the IPL contractors are back in the team. There might be a couple of changes for the first test (Martin in, Flynn out?), but we are fielding a near to full strength side.

The IPL guys seem to be finding their feet in the longer form of the game as well, all of them keeping their scoring rates in check – McCullum in particular scoring at a very responsible 33.33 runs per 100 balls. Unfortunately, they seem to be forgetting how to hang on to their wickets; the five IPL players scored only 64 between them, in a total of 355.

Martin and Young Tim for O'Brien and Mason, and possibly Fulton for
Flynn (although they do seem to love him) and there's your test team.

This McCullum at #5 business worries me though

Drop the wicket takers Freak?

The IPL players made another poor showing in the field, Vettori and Mills getting just one wicket each.

Yup, I'd drop them.

IOB and MM are journeymen, and a spring pitch in Essex is perfect for them.

Look at their test records.

And to think that one of them is keeping NZ's fastes bowler out of this tour...

What has Gillespie done wrong?
Rushed back from injury to play the second test at the Basin against England an now not even good enough to make the tour squad!
Then after flying half way round the world to bowl 5 overs in what can only be called a festival game. He now flies all the way back to Wellington to enjoy our winter, then heads back for the ODI series, does anyone see the logic in that? Guess at least the Basin wickets should be pretty green with all our rain!
