In March the ICC is to review the powerplay and SuperSub rules. Ricky Ponting is against them. In the past he has said that naming the SuperSub after the toss is better than having to do it before. At the same time, Daniel Vettori said an option for the Powerplay was to let the batting team name when the Powerplays happened.
What do you think?
I'm against the SuperSubs. Cricket should be 11 against 11. Part of the joy of the game is watching the bunnies try and save a match. There's also the challenge for a team in balancing between a good batting outfit and a team that can bowl 50 competitive overs. SuperSubs remove a lot of the challenge for captains.
Powerplays can be useful, but I don't really understand them. I like the idea of giving the impetus to the batting side, though.
What other innovations can be developed? Or can the game not really be improved?

I'm not a fan of the supersub or powerplay. I do feel however, that when a team picks a specialist batsman or bowler rather than an all rounder as supersub, they should hardly whinge about not using him if they lose the toss. If I was captain and won the toss when my opponent had a specialist as sub, I would seriously take this into account when choosing what to do.
You are right though - it should be 11 vs 11. No subs, no powerplay, just cricket please.
I dont have an issue with the Super Sub, but I've been harping on it for a long time now - the captains should be allowed to nominate a super sub _after_ the toss. In addition, I'd like to see the fielding restrictions go away.
I'm with you all the way Mike, proper cricket should always be 11 vs 11. And the power plays were actually meant to improve the monotony of the game in b/w over 20-40, this aim really hasn't been achieved. So you might as well do away with that to.
All well and good, Zainub and Karl, but please note that proper cricket is also not played with a white ball, under lights, by manicured teen idols wearing pyjamas. Test cricket is the vintage sports car and ODIs are the 9-5 which pay for it. On at least a couple of occasions (NZs rundown of the mammoth totals set by 'straya at the Cake Tin and Jade earlier in the summer), the utilization of Supersubs facilitated actual contests by rendering gettable what would otherwise be unassailable totals (and that's what we watch ODIs for, folks). So there may be something here. Yes, it needs to be tweaked so as to make it more equitable, but ODIs desperately need whatever rule changes can create more true competition. If supersubs can do this, then so be it. Powerplays? More strategy? Good!
11 vs 11, no powerplays. I like seeing folks like Chris Martin waving a bat aimlessly towards swinging deliveries at pace; it is part of what makes me human ;)
