Jesse Ryder

Jesse Ryder has scored 212 runs in two innings this season. Hamish Marshall has scored 4. Jesse Ryder has a first-class batting average of over 50. Hamish Marshall's average is about half that. You would think that Ryder should be shoving Marshall out of the way on his way to a place in New Zealand's top order, but no. Instead even his coach is saying the selectors should leave him be for another year.

Ryder has had his problems in the past and developed a bit of a reputation as a drinker, but he is also immensely talented. The selectors must have him in mind for the World Cup and I can't think of a better time to introduce him than now, with two moderate sides in the West Indies and Sri Lanka about to arrive.

ryder will be there no worries about that!! i tell you now if bracewell gives him that well earned break into the side he will not be dissapointed. give him a go, got nothing to lose... he only needs to get more than 4 runs to prove he should bethere. i have lots of faith in him and 'he is ready' he still has way more to offer, his coach obviously has so much faith in him and i feel he is wanting to give him time to real get going with batting. jesse is an all rounder...nothing against the marshalls

ryder is what i think a normal 21year old is like.... i wish people (not getting at you AT ALL) would stop writing about his drinking problems and stuff with his dad.. he is an individual, feed off his positives..his TALENT, NATURAL TALENT. he will rise to the challenge. GIVE HIM A CHANCE. hell deliver the goods

A reputation is a terrible thing to have. A few stories in the Dominion-Post about a liking for late nights and hanging out with the "wrong crowd" are all it has taken to blacken Jesse's. And there is not an awful lot he can do to fix that.

what did you mean by the 'wrong crowd'??

Having known Jesse on a personal level for about seven years i would have to say that some of the criticism directed his way has been justified. He likes a drink, but to be fair that was the mentality we were surronded in whilst living in Napier. He has always had immense talent and will mature in the future. People forget he is only 21 and the majority of 21 year olds are not in the public eye like Jesse. Hez a champion bloke and a key component to NZ Crickets future
