Both Shane Warne and Keith Miller have new biographies in print.
Keith Miller was an Australian cricketing genius. He took wickets, scored runs and would often stumble to the ground still dressed in his dinner jacket and with a twinkle in his eye. He is remembered as a real character.
Shane Warne is an Australian cricketing genius. He took wickets, scored runs and has been caught in compromising situations with women on film and on text. He is regarded as a disgrace.
Has the standard of our role-models declined, or is it that we have become more judgemental and prurient?

I think the modern media has a lot to do with it. Back in Miller's day I'm sure a lot of behaviour went unreported that in this day and age, would have been splashed all over the front of the Sun, News of the World...etc...
That desire to know (and pry into) every detail of the personal lives of our sporting heroes just didn't exist back in Miller's day. Lucky for him!
xactly. because we all feel so impotent and helpless to change anything in the world, the only outrage we express seems to be a moral one.
on the flip side, 50 years down the line, warnie woul've become another miller. wait and see.
