Where's Flem?
Jonathan Millmow is getting frustrated about the absence of Stephen Fleming from the New Zealand team. As he notes, Fleming is out of form and needs some time in the middle. John Bracewell reasons that Daniel Vettori needs more captaincy experience, but that seems like muddled logic to me. Getting the best team in the best possible form seems to me to be more important than tinkering around the edges with contingency plans.

I see his point regarding Fleming but, to be honest, it doesnt bother me that much as we've got a very heavy schedule before the World Cup (including games against the Aussies) and id rather Fleming was physically (and especially) mentally fit. I totally agree with his idea on Lou Vincent. As a keeper he can do an adaquete job, probably no less better than the specialists outside of McCullum (whose by far the best gloveman in the country) and his batting is proven (despite his recent form in domestic). Masons just taken 4 wickets before rain stopped play. I like the look of him and think maybe he just needed to get over his initial nerves. Plus hes never had a bunch of games in a row so maybe this will be the making of him.
We always look so much better with Bond in the team. Not sure about James Marshall and Hamish shouldnt be anywhere near the team at this point.
But otherwise, i think we're looking okay for the WOrld Cup, IF we can sort out the top order batting woes.
